What you'll find here

Welcome to this jumble sale of writings, musings, observations and inspirations: I hope you find something to help you on your journey home.  It's all storytelling, in the end. That's how we understand things; the stories of who we are, where we came from, where we're headed. The stories of other people, how they came to be who they are, which stories shaped them, why our stories sometimes run parallel, and sometimes clash.

When we're motivated enough, we can change our stories, write new outcomes for ourselves and our people, our planet. All it takes is imagination, where there are, genuinely, no limits.

Warmest regards

Peter Neary-Chaplin

Writer. Poet.

Turns out I may be Jewish after all

I'm engaged on a study programme with the Interfaith Foundation here in the UK, and yesterday I was reading up some summarised information about Judaism. It was a shock to find out that I'm Jewish after all.

Ignoring the racial and cultural (and surgical!) elements, which I'm never going to have as a 'goy,' and simply focusing on the core tenets of belief, I found that I had almost no objections to the basic propositions of Judaic belief. Certainly I had no more objections than I do to the Christian faith I was raised in.

Perhaps this is what St Paul referred to as the circumcision of the heart. No doubt there would be many obstacles in adopting a new faith like Judaism (the non-cardiac circumcision being one of them) so I'm fairly certain I won't be doing that any time soon. But the tantalising possibility is emerging of being not only a Citizen of the World, but perhaps also, in the same way Prince Charles has spoken of, being if not a member, at least a Defender of Faith.
